1979 gelang ihm mit Ruf Teddybär eins-vier ein Hit. Bei dieser Aufnahme handelt es sich um einen gesprochenen Text in Gedichtform, der mit Musik unterlegt ist. Diese Aufnahme brachte ihm eine Goldene Schallplatte ein. Neben Schlagern und Country-Titeln singt Hill auch Volkslieder und Seemannslieder.
